EXPLORE THE AREA
Hadrian's Wall was built by the Roman Empire to keep invaders from the north out of the ancient Roman province of Britain. The wall stretched across the width of northern Britain for 73 miles (118 kilometers) from coast to coast, from Wallsend (Segedunum) on the River Tyne in the east to Bowness on the Solway Firth in the west.
